Elisabeth “Lissie” Maurus is a modern day country/folk rock singer song writer. She was born in Rock Island, Illinois, and her sound is real (see Nashville for endless examples of not so real modern american folk). I couldn’t figure out where I had heard of Rock Island, until it hit me that’s where the Blues Brothers were raised. They were on a mission from God to save the Rock Island city orphanage. Sorry for that Tangent, but I spent half an hour trying to figure out why that sounded familiar and had to share.  —  Lissie left Illinois for California in ’04, where she befriended Bill Reynold’s of Band of Horses. The two began playing / recording together and eventually produced her debut E.P. Wedding Bells.

From there it’s been good times for the girl from Rock Island. Paste magazine thought Lissie was the best new solo artist for 2010. I think she’s pretty damn cool.
