Featuring the A: BABY BABY

Going with a relatively new Atlanta band today. One that I definitely intend on keeping up with: BABY BABY. I’ve seen them knocked as young, raw, rough,….basically your standard issue music snob blogs suggesting they’ve got a long way to go. I don’t think they’d argue with that, or care.

“At first glance, the motley crew of Fontez Brooks (Vocals, Guitar), Kyle Dobbs (Bass), and Grant Wallace (Drums), along with newcomer Colin Boddy (Percussion) do not seem like serious musicians. It might be the fact that they are constantly shirtless, wearing only fluorescent colored short-shorts. Maybe it’s the tribal face paint that they sport at shows. Or it could be that they named their last album something as nonsensical as Wabadabadaba. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for certain, Baby Baby is very serious – about having fun”

Since 2009, Baby Baby has garnered a loyal Atlanta following, headlining and packing the house at The Drunken Unicorn and similar venues. They made it to SXSW this year and picked up some notice (Paste had them as a top 100), which has led to their trying to raise money for a tour van – in case you wanna show the ATLove. They also crack me up :

“Pledge $20 or more and you get to be in our new music video!!  “Pledge $75 and you can come stay at the bandhouse for a couple days. We have a pull out sofa bed”

It’s early, but I’m calling big things for these guys.

Update – 7/1/2011 – Bighead and I saw these guys at Starbar last night. Bottom line, you need to go see them live when you get the chance. One of the best small venue shows I’ve been to in a long time. We’re fans.
