New releases (of interest) – March 22

James Blake – S/T:  Much awaited debut from minimalist electro-pop crooner.  Causes me to think of Bon Iver and Antony & the Johnsons.  From the album, love this cover of Feist‘s “Limit to Your Love.”

William Fitzsimmons – Gold in the Shadow:  Beard rock, melancholy flavor.  Losts of whispering vocals, good for a dreary weekend afternoon.

Acid House Kings – Music Sounds:  Tweed-y, melodic indie pop from the seemingly endless epicenter of all things musically obscure, Sweden.  Evokes thoughts of Belle & Sebastian.

Maggie Bjorklund – Coming Home:  Music to ride a mule through the desert to.  Fantastic steel-pedal guitar, with help from Calexico, and certain vocals remniscent of Neko Case.

The Lonely Forest – Arrows:  Washington state-based band signed to Chris Walla’s (Death Cab for Cutie) Trans label.

Also ran:

If By Yes – Salt on Sea Glass

Duran Duran – All You Need Is Now

Richard Ashcroft – United Nations of Sound

Gucci Mane – The Return of Mr. Zone 6

Pharoahe MonchW.A.R. (We Are Renegades)

The Strokes – Angles:  This blog is not much of a place for negative criticism.  So I will leave my commentary on this release to 5 words–I won’t listen to it.
